UWF, Inc. School Recycling Program:
Why Worms?
The earthworm is a creature seen on the driveways and sidewalks of many after a Spring rain. But, what is the job of these slimy
spineless creatures and why should we care? Although worms differ from human kind, being able to build an ecosystem in a box and
understanding the world of the worm may lead children to easier understand our own Earth.

Composting with red worms demonstrates to children the importance of even the smallest of creatures as well as the importance of
taking care of our Earth and can be applied to Science, English, Mathematics, Health and other curriculums.
Elements of our recycling Program:
The success of our program planning includes (1) appointing the teacher as a team leader, (2) identifying roles and
responsibilities, (3) providing equipment, (4) hands on instruction/ materials, (5) follow on support and, (6) performing age
appropriate lecture to classrooms.
*Prices vary with services, ask us how you can bring this program to your school or learning center.
Vermicomposting
"Part of our commitment to the Go Green Initiative is to use vermicomposting in the classroom. The three vermicomposting bins
we purchased from Upstate Worm Farms have been wonderful additions to our science classrooms."
